Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay campus situated in Powai, Mumbai was established in 1958 with the help of Russian Roubles and in 1961 Indian Parliament Decreed the IITs as the “Institute of National Importance”. During the years the institute has emerged as the pioneer of engineering in India. A fully residential campus houses students in 15 hostels. It offers degrees at undergraduate, graduate and post graduate levels and also is the mentoring institute of IIT, Gandhinagar and IIT, Indore. IIT, Bombay has the top notch infrastructure. Located in the midst of lakes Powai and Vihar campus is located in north eastern Mumbai. The campus comprises of a cluster of building for various departments connected by an “Infinite Corridor”. It also has two swimming pools, cricket, football, volleyball, tennis, squash, and hockey grounds to facilitate sports.Apart from academic prowess the institute is also the fountain head of culture and innovation which is reflected from the variety of festivals it hosts like Eureka, MoodIndigo, Nexus and many more.


Giants like Kotak, Barclays, Shell, Google, GE and many others come each year to carry out recruitment at Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. The placement rate at the IIT, Bombay for the year (2014-2015) has been as follows; for B.Tech was 77.65% , dual degree(B.tech+ M.tech) was 80%, M.tech was 73.90% and for 5year M.Sc was 57.14%. The packages went above Rs.11 lakhs p.a.


IIT, Bombay has 15 departments ranging from Aerospace Engineering to Earth Sciences and Physics. It is also one of the most sought after institutes for engineering aspirants in India. Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay offers three undergraduate programs namely B.Tech, Dual Degree and 5 year integrated M.Sc. A variety of Post Graduate programs and Research Programs are offered too. Cut off for 4 year engineering closes around rank 2000 for all streams.For admissions in Masters Program cut off ends around 600 rank.The academic staff comprises of 565 members and IIT, Bombay resides 3400 undergraduates and 4600 post graduates in the campus. Currently Professor Devang Khakar is the director to the institution. The faculty of IIT Bombay includes notable engineers such as Ram Punyani (Bio Medical), C.V. Seshadri (Chemical) and Deepak B. Phatak (Padma Sri Award Winner) Computer Scientist and many more. Some notable alumni of IIT Bombay are Pranav Mistry, Manohar Parrikar and Nandan Nilekani.
