College Details

It was established in the year 1960 by the name of Regional Institute of Technology. It got its present name and the status of deemed university in the year 2002. NIT, Jamshedpur is fully funded by the central government and is governed by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt. of India. The campus covers an area of 320 acres of land in Jamshedpur city of Jharkhand State. NIT, Jamshedpur accommodates its students in nine boys' and two girls' hostels. All the hostels are catered with equipments for sports like table tennis, lawn tennis, cricket, football, badminton, carom, chess, etc. The students represent the institute at state and national level. The hostels are connected with high speed wireless LAN. The institute also has staff quarters and guest house. The oval structured Computer Centre is one of the attractions of the National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur. The computer centre provides with computational, network and laboratory services. The institute is also a room for health centre, gymkhana, bank, post office and general store.

Courses

The institute offers B.Tech (Hons.), M.Tech, MCA, M.Sc and Ph.D degree courses. The B.Tech degree course is available in various discipline of engineering namely, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical & Materials Engineering and Production Engineering. To be eligible for B.Tech degree the candidate should have passed 12thstandard exam in science stream and have good JEE MAIN score. NIT, Jamshedpur offers M.Tech degree in Computer Integrated Design & Manufacturing, Computer Science & Engineering, Materials Technology, Foundry Technology, Industrial & Management Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, Iron & Steel Technology, Surface Science & Engineering, Structural Engineering, Extractive Metallurgy, Energy Systems Engineering, Manufacturing Systems Engineering, Power Electronics & Drives, Information Systems Security Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, Communication Systems Engineering, Embedded Systems Engineering, Thermal & Fluid Engineering. The admission to M.Tech degree is on the basis of GATE score and performance at screening test/interview conducted by the institute.
