JEE advanced, often referred as the Joint Entrance Examination Advanced is an entrance examination for getting admitted to the engineering based courses in top colleges of India. To be very true, we can say that clearing the JEE advanced will land you up in top IIT colleges located at different locations in India. Precisely, JEE advanced entrance examination is a gateway for taking admission into the IITs and IIT(ISM) Dhanbad. This entrance examination is held by one of the top seven zonal IITs which coordinate under the guidance of JAB every year. Only those candidates will be eligible to appear in IIT JEE Advanced who have qualified in JEE Main. Passing through JEE advanced will make a student eligible to choose B.Tech programs of their desire across a long list of 23 IITs. It has been observed that from 2018 onwards, IIT admissions will be open to a top total of 2, 24,000candidates who get through JEE advanced. Generally, JEE Advanced comprises of two question papers, both of which are necessary for the candidates.


The eligibility criteria for JEE Advanced is given below with all the five parameters which every student must fulfil in order to get through the admission process of JEE Advanced -

1. Performance as the basis –The aspiring candidates must lie within the range of top 2, 24,000 ranks. That is, candidates who stay above this rank range manages to get through the admission process of JEE Advanced on clearance.These candidates are from different categories (including ST, ST, OBC and General etc.) in Paper-1 of JEE (Main) 2018. The minimum passing percentage which has been showcased for shortlisted candidates are –7.5% for ST, 15% for SC, 27% for OBC-NCL and rest 50.5% is for general category. 5% horizontal reservation is available for PwD candidates out of all these categories.
2. Age as the basis: The maximum age which is specified for the JEE Advanced entrance examination is 25 years. Although a relaxation of 5 years is given to the ST, SC and PwD candidates.
3. Number of attempts as the basis: In two consecutive years, a candidate can attempt the JEE Advanced for two times at the maximum.
4. Qualifying in Class XII (or equivalent) examination as the basis: All the candidates or aspirants applying for the JEE advanced must have appeared in 12th standard or an equivalent examination for the very first time in either that year or last year.
5. Earlier admission at IITs as the basis:Any candidate who has previously taken admission in any IIT irrespective of whether he/she has pursued the coursework or not, should not apply for the exam. Even those candidates are not eligible to apply for JEE Advanced whose admission has been cancelled because of any reason at IITs. Preparatory course students at IIT can apply for the exam. In addition to all these students, even those candidates can apply for JEE Advanced 2018 whose candidature has been cancelled because of their non-availability after paying the fees of the allocated seat after the rounds of final counselling.

Pattern of examination:
  1. Since JEE Advanced is an online test, therefore it is conducted in the CBT format only i.e. Computer Based Format.
  2. Once the students have filled their login details, they are advised to read all the general and specific instructions carefully.
  3. A total of 3 hours duration will be given for the examination of JEE Advanced 2018.
  4. The whole paper comprises of Objective type questions i.e. Multiple Choice Questions, MCQs.
  5. The paper will comprise of different sections and a candidate can choose the questions and answers accordingly. They can review them, save them, answer or can keep them marked for later time.
