College Details

It was founded in 1956 as Govt. College of Mining & Metallurgy with two engineering disciplines, mining and metallurgy; the institute is one of the oldest of its kind in India. Later the inauguration of the Institute building was done by our Prime Minister Honorable Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru on 14th March 1963. From 1st December 2005, the institute has become the National Institute of Technology. It is a technical institution funded by the Government of India, located in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. Dr. Sudarshan Tiwari is the director of National Institute of Technology, Raipur. The ABP News National Educational Awards 2014 has selected NIT, Raipur to honor with Outstanding Engineering Institute (North) for the contribution of the Institute in the field of Engineering from North Region. The institute is committed to the challenging task of development of technical education by preparing seasoned graduates in highly sophisticated field of engineering and technology. NIT, Raipur which was earlier a mining college, is roughly 50 years old, and somehow manages to look even older. The laboratories and classrooms are sufficient. The library is with a very 'first come, first serve' environment, but fortunately has a huge reading room which can accommodate a substantial number of students. There are a couple of grounds for cricket, volleyball, etc. The institute has 5 boys' hostel within the campus and presently there are two girls' hostels in the campus.

The highest package offered at NIT, Raipur was Rs. 75 Lakhs per Annum offered by Epic Systems, USA.


The National Institute of Technology, Raipur is primarily known for Academics, but now to nurture creativity, competitive spirit and a fine sense of aesthetics among the youth, ‘Eclectikais’ organized annually by NIT, Raipur. It is one of the Central India’s largest, exciting, competitive students cultural cum technical festivals. The institute offers undergraduate degrees (B.Tech. and B.Arch.) and two postgraduate degrees (M.Tech. and M.C.A) in 11 engineering disciplines and Architecture. The undergraduate admissions are based on the Joint Entrance Examination organized by CBSE, India. The postgraduate admissions are based on the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). The postgraduate admissions for Master in Computer Application are done on the basis of NIMCET. NIT, Raipur follows the reservation policy declared by the Supreme Court of India, by which 27% of positions are reserved for Other Backward Classes (OBCs), 15% for Scheduled Castes (SCs), and 7.5% for Scheduled Tribes (STs).
