Petroleum Engineering

Petroleum Engineering

Course Details :

Anything related to the study of the production of hydrocarbons i.e. natural gas or crude oil is called Petroleum Engineering. It also involves designing and evolving methods to obtain oil and gas deposits from the earth’s surface (including mining and drilling).

To study this stream one should have a clear understanding of physical properties of the gas, water & oil and the course will let them know about the designing aspects of oil & gas reservoirs used for storage & transportation and also the knowledge about procedure required in drilling the surface of the earth for refining petroleum products.

Eligibility Criteria :
For B. Tech
  • 10+2 with minimum 50% marks in science stream from recognized board.
  • Score in an Entrance Exam like JEE etc. is also considered.

For Dual Degree

12th standard with minimum 50% marks (in PCM i.e. Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics group), from recognized board.

For M. Tech in Petroleum Engineering

Applicants for M. Tech should have a graduate degree B.E/B. Tech in engineering with high percentage marks with a valid GATE score.

Degree & Duration :
  • B. E. / B. Tech. -- 4years
  • M. E. / M. Tech. -- 2years
  • Dual Degree (in Petroleum Engineering) -- 5 years

Scope & Career Opportunities :

Petroleum engineers are segregated into reservoir engineers, drilling engineers, and production engineers. These engineers are in excessive demand worldwide in the petroleum sector and it is one of the highest paid jobs. Following are the few :
