Dr B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology was established in the year 1987 as Regional Engineering College and was given the status of National Institute of Technology (Deemed University) by the Government of India on October 17, 2002 under the aegis of Ministry of Education (Shiksha Mantralaya), New Delhi. Now the Ministry of Education (Shiksha Mantralaya), Government of India has declared the Institute as “Institute of National Importance” under the act of Parliament-2007. A large number of reputed Industrial houses in the country visit the Institution and select the final year students as Engineers/ Management Trainees. As one of the National Institutes of Technology (NIT), the Institute has the responsibility of providing high quality education in Engineering, Technology and Sciences to produce competent technical and scientific manpower for the country. The Institute offers BTech, MTech, MSc, MBA and PhD programmes in the several disciplines of Engineering, Technology and Sciences.
Placements :D.R. BR Ambedkar National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jalandhar ranked 52nd by NIRF 2020 report. The institute maintains a good placement record over years. The institiute is conducting its placement drive for the batch 2022 and there was increase in the Average CTC which increased to INR 11.87 LPA from INR 8.5 LPA and the Highest CTC stood at INR 44 LPA. Till now 17 companies participated in the placement drive & 162 students were placed.
The interim summer internship placement report for the 2021-22 graduating batch has also been released and the highest stipend stood at INR 80 K per month.
Some of the top recruiters including Microsoft, American Express, Oracle, Sabre Corporation and many others participated in the placement drive.

Undergraduate Programmes :In addition to above mentioned B.Tech programme, the institute offers its meritorious students to earn a minor degree in another engineering discipline in addition to Major degree in the which the student is originally enrolled. The students have to study six additional specialized courses (One in each semester starting from 3rd semester) in the engineering discipline of minor degree. Presently, the following combinations of Major and Minor degrees are operational:
