College Details :

It was earlier known as Regional Engineering College in Assam. The college was established in 1967. In 2002, the institute got the status of National Institute of Technology, Silchar and was declared as Institute of National Importance.

NIT, Silchar campus accommodates its students in eight boys' hostels and two girls’ hostels. The institute has sports ground for basketball, volleyball, badminton, cricket, football, hockey and lawn tennis. The campus also accommodates full fledged branch of State Bank of India and shopping centre. The well equipped workshop of Mechanical Engineering Department is helpful in the projects of the students and fabrication work of the institute.

Placements :

NIT, Silchar has a Training and Placement (T&P) Cell which helps it’s students in all the stages of placement process. T&P cell also acts as intermediary between the industry and the institute. The placement rate for the year 2014-15 of National Institute of Technology, Silchar was 83%. The highest package offered to the B.Tech student was Rs.35 LPA and the average package for the same was Rs.4.84 LPA. The M.Tech student was offered the highest package of Rs. 6 LPA and an average package of Rs. 3.92 LPA for the same. BTech

Candidate Should have passed their 12th Board examination with at least 75% marks in 12th Standard or any other equivalent qualifying examination

MTech

Candidates must have secured 6.5 CPI or 60% marks in their relevant Bachelor's degree

MSc

Bachelor's Degree in relevant subject with minimum 55% marks for Gen/OBC and Mathematics at (10+2) level

MBA

Candidates having a bachelor’s degree in a relevant stream with a minimum required marks from a recognised university or Institute are only eligible to apply for the MBA programme.

PhD

Masters in Engineering/ Technology with minimum CPI 6.5 or 60% marks or Bachelors in Engineering/ Technology with 70% marks or CPI of 7.5

The institution also provides students with medical care, sports, and other facilities. NIT Silchar has a very good placement record Last year, over 86% of B.Tech students earned an average annual CTC of INR 6.25 LPA. The highest package offered is INR 32.5 LPA from Arcesium India Pvt Ltd.
