NIT, Goa was established in the year 2010 by an act of parliament (NIT act 2007) and it has been declared as ‘Institute of National Importance’. It is an autonomous institute and functioning under the aegis of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt. of India. The campus is located at Farmagudi, Ponda approximately 29 km southeast of Panaji. It aims to strive for quality faculty, good students and excellent infrastructure. Dr. G. R. C. Reddy is the director of this institute.

The National Institute of Technology, Goa provides hostel facilities to outstation students with shared accommodation in the campus and may be in a rented building which is very near to the campus. The existing hostels are provided with the basic amenities like mess and Wi-Fi internet connectivity. It has a Robotics Club to facilitate students to understand, design and learn robotics. It provides interested students with opportunities to express their skills, knowledge and creativity through conceptualizing, designing and programming robots.

The placement statistics of NIT, Goa in 2015 were CSE (73.07%), ECE (78.57%) and EEE (66.66%).
