The institute is commonly known as IIT, Bhubaneswar was established in July, 2008. It is situated at the foot of Barunei Hill, Bhubaneswar, Odisha and spreads in an area of 936 acres. Barunei Hill is known of its rich history and is a famous tourist spot. It was among the new IITs’ established by Ministry of Human Recourse Development, Government of India under The Institutes of Technology Act, 1961 with amendments up to, 2012. The campus originally operated under IIT, Kharagpur and started working at its campus from 22ndJuly, 2009. The vision of IIT, Bhubaneswar is “We will be a highly respected Institute in the world for our distinctive knowledge”.
Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar has a residential area, academic area, area for research park and training centres'. The residential area caters 800 boys in Mahanadi Hall of Residence and 200 girls in Subarnarekha Hall of Residence. It also has staff quarters and faculty quarters with guest rooms. The halls are modernly constructed and well furnished with all basic amenities. The institute also has a health centre and sports fields and courts for cricket, volleyball, basketball and table tennis.
Placements :It has a Career Development Cell for its students. The placement rate for the year 2011-12 was 100%, for the year 2012-13 was 91% and for the year 2013-14 was 64%. IIT BBS allows admission to all UG, PG, and Ph.D. courses based on effective entrance exam scores. The IIT Bhubaneswar admission process begins with the submission of the application form. Eligible candidates can access these forms on the official IIT BBS website. The admissions process for the IIT Bhubaneswar BTech course begins in December, the admission for the Master's course begins in March, and the admission for the MTech and Ph.D. courses begins in April. The total number of seats is 730+, among which the ST / SC / OBC / OBCNCL / EWS / PwD seat reservation complies with the Indian government regulations.
UG Courses :IIT BBS admission to BTech and dual degree BTech-MTech course is based on JEE Main scores followed by Joint Seat Allocation Authority ( JoSAA) Counselling.
