It came into existence in 2008 with seven more IITs’. It is also known as IIT, Patna and is recognized as Institute of National Importance by the Government of India. The campus spreads on an area of 501 acres of land in Amhara, Bihta, 35 kms from Patna (Bihar).IIT, Patna provides hostel facility to the students. There are five hostels for boys in the name of Aryabhatta, Ashoka, Chanakya Halls and Gautam Budhha. The institute also has one hostel for girls. The hostel caters for sports facilities like basketball, volleyball, cricket and badminton. The residents are also provided with medical and gymnasium facilities. The Indian Institute of Technology, Patna has various clubs under it namely, Rural Technology Development Club, Entrepreneurship Club, Cultural Club, Literary Club, Environmental Club, they organize activities throughout the year. The campus has well equipped class rooms and library with growing collection of books.

The Indian Institute of Technology, Patna has a Training and Placement Cell (TPC) for its students. The cell organizes summer training and placements for the students. In 2015 the placement rate of B.Tech students was 82% and the average package offered was Rs.9.125 Lakhs per annum. The placement rate of M.Tech students for the same year was 43% as most of the students opted for higher studies and the average package offered was Rs. 7 lakhs per annum. Whereas the placement rate for the year 2014 was 62% (B.Tech) and 8% (M.Tech). The average package for the year 2014 was Rs. 8.71 lakhs per annum (B.Tech) and Rs. 5.5 Lakhs per annum (M.Tech).
