MERI, well known for Marine Engineering and Research Institute, is one of the leading national and greatly known institutes for preparing and training of marine engineers and polyvalent officers. In earlier times, MERI was known as DMET (Directorate of Marine Engineering Training) but nowadays, known as IMU (Indian Maritime University) with its campus in Kolkata and Mumbai.

1. MERI campus of Kolkata offers a 4 years pre sea Bachelor degree program in Marine Engineering to prepare cadets for deck side. The selection of the candidates for this degree course is done through a Common Entrance Test (CET) conducted by Indian Maritime University (IMU).

3. MERI campus of Mumbai offers a 1 year pre sea post graduate diploma in Marine Engineering to prepare cadets for deck side. The selection of the candidates for this programme course is done through a All-India Based Entrance Exam conducted by Reputed Shipping Organizations on behalf of MERI, Mumbai. MERI campus of Mumbai also offers a 3 years pre sea Bachelor degree B.Sc in Maritime Science which is a dual certificate-degree programme. The selection of the candidates for this dual course is done through a Common Entrance Test (CET).

The candidate must possess following eligibility criteria as :

• The candidate must be 10+2 qualified with minimum 60% marks in aggregate with basic subjects as Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM).
• The maximum age limit of the candidate must be less than or equal to 25 years.
• The courses offered by MERI campus of Kolkata and Mumbai are open for both boys and girls.
• The candidate must be fully physically fit for sea service under all conditions and norms.
• The eyesight of the candidate should be 6/12 in both eyes commonly. Particularly, he/she should have eyesight 6/12 in right eye and 6/18 in left eye. Also, the candidate should not suffer from the problem of Color blindness.

Marine Engineering and Research Institute (MERI) does not conduct any separate entrance examination to select students for various courses like

• 3-year course leading to B.Sc.(Nautical Sciences)
• 3-year Polyvalent B.Sc. (Maritime Sciences)
• 4-year Marine Engineering Degree

rather follows the score card of Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) for offering admissions to the eligible students.
