It is commonly known as NIT, Manipur is one of the National Institutes of Technology in India. It came into existence in 2009 with ten other NITs by the Government of India under Ministry of Human Resource Development. The institute is declared as the Institute of National Importance by the Government of India and it started operating from the year 2010.

NIT, Manipur has proper academic facilities for the students like computer laboratory foe every department, laboratories with latest equipment, campus internet, workshops and a centralized library. The centralized library has growing collection of books, journals, magazines, ebooks and CD-ROMs. The National Institute of Technology, Manipur has hostels for boys’ and girls’. The institute offers medical, banking & post office and communication facilities.

It has a Training and Placement Cell which handles all aspects of campus placement for the graduating students. The institute also organizes for pre-placement talks, interviews, discussions, etc. The cell coordinates with the companies for recruitment. NIT, Manipur also helps its students in internship during the course. It helps students to gain knowledge of the technical field and have an experience of real working environment. The students of the institute have done their internships with companies like BSNL, NHPC, NIIT, ISRO, NEEPCO, HP, Power Grid Corporation of India and Robosapines India.
